How/Why did that happen?

I think it’s because it’s very clearly just a re skinned enzo that people generally describe as being worse. Don’t get me wrong, is wacky fun and way better looking than the cheese grater enzo but yeah

We didn’t forget the Maserati MC12.
The Maserati MC12 forgot us.

Funny, I just watched a clip on a guy putting together a supercar collection, and this was part of it....

Maserati always seems to slip into the shadows of the other italian exotic car makers.

That’s because Ferrari tries to keep them one step below with any competing cars and anything that doesn’t compete is kinda crap (the GranTurismo is sexy as all hell, but not a good car).

They had one at Ferrari of Atlanta when I was like 16 or 17, and since we live about 10 mins from the dealer, me and my friends went to check it out. It is massive in person. Sadly I can’t find the phone I had at the time to get the pics off of it, which is sad cause I had a bunch of great pics from my first job.

Probably because they made so few of them no one drives them. Awesome cars though, especially the race car version.

This was a true homologation car, so it has a race car body. It has less street cred than an Enzo because it’s less of a usable road car. Just look at that front overhang. You can’t go anywhere with that thang.
Only 50 units were produced, so it’s quite a collectible piece.

Nobody has
forgotten
them, it’s just that there are only 50 of them and they’re like an Enzo but worse in every way, so they’re interesting as a quirk of history and nothing else.

It’s a lot like one of my favorite cars of all time, the CLK GTR, beautiful but rubbish. However I would still love to have both as garage queens that I occasionally drive.

Time and the car world most likely forgot the MC12 because of when it was produced. The batshit GT1 homologation specials of the ‘90s ended up being more memorable and the Enzo and Veyron did quick work of putting the MC12 in the shadows.
All that said, I believe time has also helped the MC12. It still is much more eye catching than an Enzo, which has done nothing but grow uglier.

I’ve never liked the looks of the Enzo.

Hmm yeah. I don’t think they’ve had many cars that got a lot of attention for being competitive in their class. They’ve always had a fatal flaw of some kind. Shame.

It was always living in the shadow of the Enzo, which is a shame because it looked ten times better than the Ferrari. Soon after the Veyron came along so, for a while, people paid attention to neither.
